Back pain – one of the most common patients’ complaints in general practice. Often they are caused by spinal osteochondrosis – degenerative intervertebral disc cartilage and reactive changes of the adjacent vertebral bodies.
A classic example of painful muscle spasms is lumbago (lumbar backache), which is characterized by sharp, shooting pain in the back, emerging usually during exercise (lifting weights, etc.) or an awkward movement. The patient is often frozen in an awkward position, trying to motion leads to increased pain. The examination reveals the voltage of the back muscles, usually scoliosis, flattening the lumbar lordosis and kyphosis.
